Together, Sigrid Weigel and Ernst Johannes Haberl led the research project Skull Base Knowledge at the ZfL, publishing two volumes of the same name with Kadmos-Verlag in 2017.

Ernst Johannes Haberl founded Germany’s first self-sufficient department for pediatric neurosurgery at the SE, Berlin Charité in 2005 which he headed until 2014. After a stopover in Ulm, he was appointed to the chair of pediatric neurosurgery at the clinic of the University of Bonn in 2016. Since 2022, he has been heading the German-French training program “Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy.”

Sigrid Weigel is the former director of the ZfL. Under her leadership, the institute became a laboratory for experimental interdisciplinary research. Based on her research on first cultural studies and image theory, she has produced work on genetics/genealogy/heritage, Freud and neuro-psychoanalysis, empathy, bioethics, emotion recognition, and the cultural and media history of the human face.
