This scholarly-artistic workshop deals with practices of narration in text, image, performance, and other narrative media. In discussions with artists and writers, we explore how narration is currently undergoing decisive changes in an age of digital media and generative AI along with the appearance of a new awareness of nonhuman agency. We will approach narration not from the perspective of a completed work, but from the perspective of narration as a process. Narration appears as an act that generates relationships between humans and nonhumans by situating them temporally and spatially.

The workshop will test and discursively discuss purportedly self-evident practices of distribution, scaling, and perspectivization. We will start with issues of agency, especially in the context of writing techniques and creative processes that seek to integrate AI and nonhuman entities. We will then present artistic approaches to scales that surpass experience and critically reflect practices of scaling that determine how we can engage with natural and artificial environments. The last panel will discuss forms of subjectivity and art that blur the boundaries between humans, animals, and technology.
