Gershom Scholem: Poetica
Schriften zur Literatur, Übersetzungen, Gedichte
[Gershom Scholem: Poetica. Writings on Literature, Translations, Poems]
Even beyond the boundaries of academic Jewish studies, Gershom Scholem’s name is synonymous with the history of Jewish mysticism and Jewish messianism. Less well known is the fact that throughout his life he was intensely involved with poetry and translations as well as with philological questions of language theory. This edition presents the literary side of the well-known scholar of religion. It provides for the first time a comprehensive and systematic insight into the work of the writer and translator, the intellectual and critic, by assembling Scholem’s Poetica in six sections and providing detailed commentaries on the individual texts.
Here, Gerschom Scholem emerges as a dedicated Israeli intellectual who engaged enthusiastically yet thoughtfully with contemporary literary debates within and beyond Israel.
