This interdisciplinary volume offers new insights into style as a key concept in literary studies that has yet to be clearly defined, examining it from the perspectives of transnationalism, knowledge, genre and linguistic history.

In the 18th century, reflections on ways of writing prompted a re-evaluation of the concept of style, establishing it as a key aspect of aesthetic discourse. This volume explores the pluralization, historicization and individualization of the category of style, opening up new areas of application in literary and cultural theory. By opening up European horizons for comparison and presenting approaches from both literary and linguistic studies, movements between languages, literatures, media, and semantic fields can be explored. In this way, the publication makes a valuable contribution to comparative German studies, with a particular focus on the literary and cultural history of the 18th century and European cultural transfer.
