In Gemeinschaft liest’s sich besser. Reading and talk with Lea Streisand
On occasion of the current exhibition Świetlica by Christina Ferreira-Szwarc at the KVOST, the Kunstverein Ost – KVOST and the ZfL project Neighborhood in Contemporary Literature organize two readings. These will start off on Friday, October 29 at 7.30 pm with Lea Streisand (moderator: Dirk Naguschewski, ZfL) and continue on Thursday, November 4 at 7.30 pm with Paul Bokowski (moderator: Georgia Lummert, ZfL).
In her installations, the artist Ferreira-Szwarc deals with the phenomenon of the “Świetlica,” a once widespread type of communal space in Poland. On the basis of memories by Polish people living in exile, these rooms appear as “a ghostly remnant of the past, a reminder to the ways in which history, heritage, and architecture shape the individual character.”
Lea Streisand (*1979) and Paul Bokowski (*1982) have longstanding experience on and with Berlin’s reading stages. Both write stories that start from their own personal experiences and explore the ways in which these experiences are connected to their home, the city of Berlin. Contemporary history meets situation comedy. We make use of the pedestal installed as part of the exhibition with open purpose and turn it into an improvised reading stage. Here, we will discuss aspects of community and neighborhood in a reading and a talk.
The event will take place in compliance with 2G Covid regulations (vaccinated or recovered attendees only). Since number of seats is limited, please register in advance with firstname.lastname@example.org.
