“Kien”. A Play by Maxim Biller
In his new play, Kien, Maxim Biller reflects on the early years of the Federal Republic of Germany as a “purified” nation. In this context, shame about love for Hitler and anti-Semitism was the norm. Along with a superficial philosemitism, this shame was intended to lend credibility to Germany’s moral reintegration into the international community.
A scenic reading with actors Samuel Finzi and Herbert Knaup will be followed by a discussion between Arnd Beise (University of Fribourg) and Norbert Otto Eke (Paderborn University) about the play and its author. Moderated by Michael Hofmann (IPWG).
The event is supported by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Literarischer Gesellschaften und Gedenkstätten with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
