Program

Thanks to the kind support of the European Science Foundation (ESF), the Berlin Zentrum für Literatur‑ und Kulturforschung (ZfL) and the Dept. of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages (IKOS) at the University of Oslo, it will be possible to bring together 25-30 colleagues in a workshop in order to explore new research fields emerging from making the European perspective(s) on Middle Eastern literatures (MEL) the starting-point for a reflexion about the interdependence and reciprocity of cultural self-assurance and the production of collective identity. The workshop is meant to lay the foundations, and help to sketch a detailed application, for a larger 3-5 years (ESF funded) Research Networking Programme (RNP) that will allow scholars dealing with Middle Eastern Literatures to carry out innovative research in related branches and follow tracks of own research. The purpose of the Workshop is to bring together all-European expertise that is needed in order to identify research lacunas, propose innovative research tracks and activities and draft an application for an ESF funded Research Networking Programme.

“Research Networking Programmes (RNPs) lay the foundation for nationally funded research groups to address major scientific and research infrastructure issues, in order to advance the frontiers of existing science. These long-term programmes, subject to selection through an open call and an international peer review process, must deal with high-quality science and demonstrate the added value of being carried out at the European level.”
