Aleś Adamovič Award Ceremony

Writers, readers, and researchers will come together for the annual Aleś Adamovič Award Ceremony. The evening will celebrate outstanding works addressing pressing issues of our time and honour the 2026 laureate.

Established in 1995 by PEN Belarus, the award honours the memory of the distinguished Belarusian writer, public intellectual, and civic activist Aleś Adamovič. Today, it is presented with the support of Nobel Prize-winning writer Sviatlana Alexievich.

The evening will offer an opportunity to learn more about the works on this year’s shortlist, meet members of the Belarusian literary community, and witness the announcement of the 2026 laureate. This will be followed by a special discussion with the laureate and invited guests.

More than an award ceremony, the evening will be a space to reflect on the role of literature and public writing in confronting the defining questions of our time. As we approach the centenary of Aleś Adamovič’s birth in 2027, the award also invites us to return to his legacy: his attention to the voices of witnesses, his search for truth through lived experience, and his insistence that literature engage directly with the realities and moral challenges of its time.

We warmly invite everyone interested in Belarusian literature, culture, and contemporary public discourse to join us in Berlin for the 2026 Aleś Adamovič Award.

The event will be held in Belarusian, with simultaneous interpretation into English.
