Anja Keith (ZfL): Else Ury – die Bestsellerautorin aus der Kantstraße: erst verehrt, dann deportiert
Else Ury (1877–1943) was one of the most famous writers of children’s and youth books during the Wilhelmine period and in the Weimar Republic. Her Nesthäkchen series shaped generations of readers. Her stories tell of young women setting out into the world, of the belief in progress, of one’s search for a place in a constantly changing world. Thus, Ury’s work documents the upheavals and threats of an era that ultimately led to catastrophe. Join this reading to (re)encounter the Jewish writer from Kantstraße and (re)discover her work.
Reading by Lina Förster and Jonah Steinhauer, students in the Acting program at Berlin University of the Arts.
Literarische Heimat Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
Many authors who helped shape the cultural life of their time spent years of their lives in Berlin’s Wilmersdorf and Charlottenburg districts. In cooperation with the ZfL and the Acting program at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), the Stadtbibliothek Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf presents some of these authors.
